Steve Crump
Steve Crump, a dedicated community leader and former teacher in the Chicago Public Schools, is now prepared to embark on a full-time commitment to the vital work of the school board, making it his sole professional focus. Hailing from a farm where all five siblings, including Steve, not only attended college but also became esteemed public school educators, Steve brings a deep understanding of the education system. Renowned for his skills as a good listener and community bridge-builder, Steve's commitment to bipartisan values is reflected in his no party political affiliation.
A graduate of Illinois State University with a teaching degree, majoring in speech and minoring in English, Steve has an extensive educational background. Moreover, his distinguished 36-year career as the lead minister earned him the title of Minister Emeritus at the Unitarian Church.
Actively involved in community initiatives, Steve played a crucial role in founding The Interfaith Federation of Greater Baton Rouge and received the inaugural Dialog & Friendship Award from the Atlas Foundation of Baton Rouge. Beyond his professional and community engagement, Steve is a multi-talented individual, engaging in hobbies such as record player restoration, music composition, and running. A man of diverse talents, Steve has even graced the stage as Abraham Lincoln in several performances in Louisiana, including one at Gettysburg, showcasing his passion for history and theater.
